A Turn Of Events

Often changes come when you least expect it. Well effective January 25th, Michael's position at Nestlé was eliminated because of a reorganization. He kind of laughs about it though. After Michael heard the news, just out of curiosity, he sat down with a sheet of paper and calculated the annualized savings/cost avoidance projects he initiated and drove in the last six months…he came up with $14+ million in savings for big initiatives not to mention the little ones. In spite of this turn of events we remain positive and have peace about it; often you don’t know the reason behind things but trust that new and better things are coming that you wouldn’t have seen when you were “safe and secure.”  Thus Michael and Wendy are excited about the things to come.

Michael has updated his resume and professional information, just click on the link or his picture at the right. Please feel free to pass it on.

2011 Update

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! This year for us has been very busy. We started the year off flying to Kenya. We flew in a little plane up to Northern Kenya to visit friends, ride quads through the game park, and a lot of things we used to do.  On the way home we stopped in London for a tour.

Michael and I went on a wedding cruise in March to Mexico.  Our cousin, Tim, got married to his long time love, Jenny, in Mexico and we were able to go.  It was a great five day cruise with all of our family.

As most of you know, Joshua joined the Marine Corps in December of last year.  In March of this year, we traveled to Parris Island, SC to see him graduate from Boot Camp.  He then went to Virginia to go to Music School and graduated in October. Most of our summer was spent driving to visit him because he couldn’t leave the area.

(Below: Boot Camp graduation, Tour of barracks, Infantry School Graduation, Kids at VA Beach, and Music School Graduation)

Michael still works for Nestlé and is still really enjoying it.  One of the perks of him traveling is that he earns a free Southwest companion ticket for the year.  I have been able to travel with him for free on short trips (only to the warm destinations); Ft. Lauderdale is my favorite.  I think we are getting a glimpse of life after kids and I am loving it!!! He still mountain bikes to work and every amount of free time he has.  Michael also bought his dream car this year.  He found a ‘65 Volkswagen Bug in really good shape.  He has finally put in the seat belts and everyone really enjoys riding in it.

Jeremy is now 21 and still in college part time and doing great at plugging away to his degree; he still works full time at our local grocery store and is juggling both well. He got his first art commission (paid) this year and was totally excited.  He hopes to do more.

Joshua at this point is still in Virginia. Rumor has it that he is stuck because the Marine Corps ran out of money to move him to his permanent duty station at Cherry Point, NC until the first of the year.  That works well for us because we can fly him home easier from Virginia for Christmas (now that he is not in school).  He has been playing in small ensembles while in Virginia and when he gets to NC he will be joining a band that travels mainly in Europe for the next 3 years.  He is very excited to travel with nothing to tie him down.

Julia is now 16 and a junior. She got her permit this year and is a terrific driver. She is the secretary for her class in Student council and is an editor for her school paper, and a home body. She really is a joy to be with and is still as straight as an arrow. School and church activities are her priorities.

Right: Julia playing with Samburu Kids in Kenya, Julia's Sweet 16 birthday part, Julia and Jason at a Stryper concert (80’s band) with lead singer Michael Sweet

Jason is now 14 and has grown about 8 inches this year.  He is obsessed with Airsoft and football.  He played this year for the Columbia Ravens and was a starter on both offense and defense.  He also was the punter and kicker.  He is somewhat obsessed with everything football from his Chargers to pick up games with the neighborhood kids.  He is also doing online school this year (9th grade).  It worked well for his football schedule, but I don’t think its social enough for him.  We will see for next year.  Jason went to his first Charger game this year in New York.  Bummer the Jets won but he had a great time.

Jason at his 8th grade graduation, Wendy and Jason Team Ravens, and Jason at his first Chargers game.

Wendy: I have been very busy this year.  I volunteered to be the team mom for Jason’s team this year.  Wow, it really was a lot of work but it was worth being able to see Jason have so much fun from close up. I enjoy doing projects around the house and recently just laid wood flooring throughout the house.

We hope you all have had a wonderful year and pray you have a blessed year to come. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
