2010 Update

Wow how time flies when you are having fun. It has been a year since our last update, shame on us, so here is the year in review for the Burner family. This year started with a bang almost 7 feet of snow, Ugh!!! The kids loved it especially Jason.

Michael is still working for Nestlé and enjoying it. He travels about 1-2 days a week and that is fine for me. No cooking dinner and get to watch chick flicks at night with Julia. He has been mountain biking a lot and his mountain bike serves as our 3rd car…nice when you have four drivers in the family. He rides to work almost every day which only takes him about 30 minutes on the back trails. He did two races this year, one local, and one in Maine this summer with Jeremy which was really fun. We got to also visit with my sister Amy and her husband Tim while we were there. He also leads a mountain bike group.

I, Wendy, have been doing well. I am of course also mom. Cooking, cleaning and chauffer, it doesn’t sound like a lot but it sure takes all my time. I also tend to be the motivation for numerous home improvement projects—we put in wood floors in our laundry room…which led to a total remodel, we refaced a fire place, and well as others…

Jeremy is finishing his 3rd semester in college and is doing really well. His is leaning towards majoring in graphic arts where he would like to eventually teach. He still works at the local grocery store and was able to work as staff again this summer at a Boy Scout camp in So California where he was the Mountain Bike Director.

Joshua is now 18 and the property of the United States Marine Corps as of Dec 11th. Yes, I am still in mourning!!! L He finished high school in June and then went to a local junior college for the fall. He finished up his finals and pretty much we immediately dropped him off to be taken away by the Marines. Josh will be in boot camp for 3 months and then he has infantry training for a month and then about 6 months at the Military School of Music.  He will then get stationed somewhere (hopefully close) and will play Trombone in the Marine Corps Band for the next 3 years. This is a real accomplishment, as there were only 2 slots this year in the whole Marine Corps for Trombone players. Many auditioned and Josh got one. Although he was nervous, he is excited to be doing what he loves and get paid for it. Please pray for him!!!!!! And Me!!!

Julia is now 15 and still such a joy to have around. (She is really my best girl friend) No teen drama. I am so glad.  She is doing well in school and is one of the editors for her school newspaper. She also hosts group of about 14 sophomore girls every Wed and really loves it.

Jason, Jason, Jason…… Well, 3 outta 4 ain’t bad is it? He is still alive, which is a major accomplishment. He is now 13 and all boy. His diabetes is up and down but mostly good. He is now back on the pump which helps. He played football, #22, this year (yes, I finally relented) and loved it. He breathes football right now. Which is great for Michael because it just gives him another excuse to watch all the games on TV especially his Chargers. He is doing well in school and thanks to a friend from California that came to visit us this summer he is now deeply involved in Geocaching. Don’t know what it is? It is like a scavenger hunt with GPS. Actually is a very fun activity to do with the family that is outdoors that you can do anywhere in the world. He also is still in Boy Scouts and youth group.

This summer we all took a trip to Southern California for Joshua’s high school graduation. It was fun to see family and friends but didn’t have enough time to get to everyone. We got to play on the beach and that was what Josh wanted along, as well as spending time with his old friends.

Finally, we are planning a trip to Kenya in January to go back and visit. The younger two kids and Michael have not been back in 2 1/2 years. Wow. I will be helping out with a woman’s retreat and Michael will hang with the kids, visit friends, and catch up with a Nestlé contact in Nairobi. We will also be able to take a small plane up to visit our friends in Karungu (Northern Kenya) which will be fun. The trip will take about two weeks. Unfortunately Jeremy with his school and work schedule will be staying behind to hold the fort down and keep the pet rats company. We would love to hear from you all on how your families are doing and how we can pray for you?

We wish you all a blessed Christmas.

Love,

Wendy (and the rest of the Burner Family….Michael, Jeremy, Joshua, Julia, and Jason)
