Christmas Message from the Burners: With the New Year coming, we pray that though we have hardships and trials, we all remember our time on this earth is temporary. Christ made eternal life possible for us through his birth and subsequent death and resurection. This brings a hope that can't be purchased but is a free gift to us all. What will you do with it? It humbles us to know that this life we live and this time of year is not about us. We thank Him for giving us friends and family like you that bless us daily. We pray that we can also be a blessing to others. Merry CHRISTmas from the Burners.

Hope all is well… I know it has been a while so here you go.

Just a quick update:

  • Michael is enjoying work and just finished one year with Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream in August; he travels almost every week being gone usually a night or so. He is glad he just finished budgeting at work…  He is also glad to have a great group of people working for him.  God has been good. Michael still mountain bikes 3-4 times a week and has a couple of riding buddies including Jeremy.
  • We are still leading a home group on Friday nights; we are going through John.  We regularly have about 10 people.  We are both still involved in our church’s missions committee, where we are mentoring missionaries going to the field and heading up missionary care.  We have been blessed with being able to mentor a couple who just left for Kenya with AIM…we are so jealous.  But this is what God has for us now.
  • Wendy is attending a women’s bible study at the church and is enjoying it.  She also spends a lot of time helping Julia study for her killer History class…Wendy thought she was done with this stuff. For the first time in 20 years she has time for most everything before kids get home (quiet time, cleaning, work out, and sometimes a project or two)  It is a very weird feeling, one she has waited for for a long time.
  • After Jeremy returned from staff at a Boy Scout Camp he decided at the last minute to go to college instead of the Air Force.  He decided that he wants to be a teacher.  He is attending a local JC and is enjoying it…though it is a lot of work.  He still works at the same grocery store and still loves it.  It is nice to still have him home with us.  Jeremy has also taken up mountain biking with Michael and is very good.  He is a natural.
  • As most of you know we decided to put the three younger kids in public school…it is working out better than we could have thought, we thank you for your prayers.
  • Joshua is a senior and is in Band. He not only plays trombone, but also the Xylophone and Baritone.  He is really enjoying school and doing fantastic.  He also got his license in August so we have 4 drivers and two cars (Michael rides to work on his bike often).  Joshua’s faith has really developed over the last 5 months…he is really growing into a young man of God.  He is also a leader at a school Christian group called SWAT (students with a testimony).
  • Julia is also enjoying school immensely.  She has mostly advanced classes where she got all A’s and a B this quarter…she worked HARD to do this.  She is also involved at the same Christian group after school and is in a weekly Bible study with young ladies in her grade.  Both her and Joshua went to their first Home Coming Game and Dance in October. She also got her first pair of glasses.
  • Jason…well, he is 12 and all boy.  Love’s pushing the limits on everything of course.  . He enjoys watching the Chargers with Michael and playing anything sports related.  He is the local ring leader and spends a lot of time outside.  He is also still involved in scouts, I think mainly to hang with his friends. School is the last thing on his mind right now, although he always pulls good grades which frustrates the others who work hard for their grades. Prayer would be appreciated as we administer the constant thumb screws ha ha.

Below are a few devotionals Michael wrote for our church.

Psalm 116:1-2
I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy.
Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!
